Digital speed limiter with radio remote control and automatic reactivation for 2-stroke mopeds / scooters.

The speed / rev limiter records the current speed and rpm via an integrated microprocessor. The speed is read via the supplied sensor (including magnet) on the wheel, the RPM on the pickup cable of the CDI.

The advantage of this digital rev limiter is its improved fine adjustment. Analogue rev limiters usually have 4 capacitors, which are combined via a rotary encoder and a toggle switch to determine the rev limit. All in all, this results in only 15 steps, which is rather coarse. Stage 12, for example, restricts a bit too much, while stage 11 may be too weak.

This digital speed limiter can be seamlessly adjusted and has a calculation accuracy of 99.9%! In addition, an analogue rev limiter alters ignition timing very slightly, even if the rev limit has not yet been reached. This results in a slight loss of power in the lower rev range. The digital rev limiter changes the ignition spark only when the set upper limit is reached. This means there is no power loss in the lower speed range.

The rev limiter can be used for almost all 2-stroke engines with carburetor (e.g. the Minarelli replicas (1E40QMB) like CPI and Keeway). Not suitable for 4-stroke engines, direct injection engines, Morini engines and engines with double pickup (e.g. Aprilia SR50 with brown and white wire on CDI).

The rev limiter has 3 modes:

1. KMH mode. In this mode you can set a top speed at which the limiter will set in and drops speed by restricting rpms. This will happen smoothly since rpm is reduced gradually when approaching the upper limit; this preliminary stage can also be adjusted. For this mode the wheel sensor and the magnet have to be mounted on the front or rear wheel.

2. RPM mode. In this mode the limiter starts restricting the engince once a pre-set maximum rpm is reached. Hard transitions are avoided via programmable pre-stages. The wheel sensor is not required here.

3. Combined mode. In this mode the rev limiter works with upper limits for speed AND revs. For example, the maximum speed can be reduced before maximum rpm is reached, which is recommended for high-revving scooters that also start revving up relatively early.

Programming the unit is really simple. Pressing the button on the inside saves the current speed or rpms as the upper limit, depending on the mode. To deactivate the throttle use the remote control. To reactivate the throttle, you can either switch the ignition off and on again or use the remote control again.

The rev limiter is very small (45x45x18mm) and fits almost everywhere. The connection cable is 45-50cm long, the wheel sensor measures 28x19mm, the associated cable 50cm.
