Piston rings should be replaced on a regular basis. You can check the piston ring groove for clearance and wear, and if necessary replace the ring(s). Worn out or damaged piston rings cause the bike to lose power, produce more smoke, and will cause the jetting to appear rich. In some cases it is sufficient to simply replace the ring(s) instead of the entire piston

We recommend to slightly lubricate ring and piston before reassembling the cylinder.
