The acual gearbox of a scooter, mopeds and supermot / dirt bike are lubricated with transmission oil; without sufficient lubrication the mechanical friction of the gears would simply be much too high. Since oil ages over time and thus loses the necessary viscosity and also gets dirty through metal cuttings, the transmission oil must be changed at regular intervals.
