THE TRANSMISSION - TUNING VIA GEAR RATIO
The gearbox or transmission is a mechanical device that transfers motion from one part to another, with the possibility of changing speed and torque. On a scooter, there is the primary transmission (input shaft on torque drive + intermediate shaft) and the secondary transmission (intermediate shaft + output shaft on the wheel). Ttransmission ratio has a great influence on acceleration and final speed - a short transmission ratio brings... good acceleration, but is a bit weak on speed, which can be compensated by a longer gear ratio.
THE COMPLEX WORLD OF GEAR RATIOS
Maybe you just need to replace worn gear parts, or maybe you want to adjust the gear ratio after upgrading to a stronger cylinder. In both cases we recommend replacing both primary and secondary transmission at the same time.
For very powerful engines, we recommend selecting the gears in a way that the final drive ratio can adequately convert the power delivered by the engine. The use of a longer gear ratio may even worsen acceleration under certain circumstances, so you should always adapt the gearbox to the available speed. Longer does not always mean better, it is best to get some relevant information before installing a new transmission!
