Torque springs are quite important when it comes to adjusting your transmission. They put pressure on the rear pulley and hold the tension on the belt. The speed at which the rear pulley moves impacts clutch performance. Torque springs have to be replaced with a harder spring as soon as the belt is starting to slip and the engine is starting to underperform in spite of using lighter weights. If you're going for a harder spring, you'll have to readjust your variator.
